Previous Projects:

Specific topics of my research have been: fresh water and ice related processes in the Arctic, including advection of biogeochemical substances (see also "Advective Pathways of nutrients and key Ecological substances in the ARctic" (APEAR), "BMBF Cooperative Project RACE" / RACE Synthesis and "REKLIM Topic: Regional climate changes in the Arctic: Forcing and long-term effects at the land-ocean interface)"). Part of this work involves the use of Ice-tethered platforms (see "IAOOS", "WHOI-ITP" and "JAMSTEC" ). This work is linked to activities within the International Arctic Buoy Programme (IABP) with prior contributions to the EU project "DAMOCLES" and the "International Polar Year (IPY)".

Previous and Ongoing Research:

Previously, I was working at the IFM-GEOMAR (now geomar) in Kiel/Germany on the circulation of the (sub-)tropical Atlantic. Part of this is the deployment and analysis of APEX and NEMO profiling floats as part of the German ARGO and the international ARGO programmes.

"Rotating Exchange Flows Through Straits with Multiple Channels" (abstract in pdf format) as part of a PhD in the Graduate School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and the James Rennell Division (now Ocean Observing and Climate Research Group) at the Southampton Oceanography Centre (SOC)), now National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS).

As part of a summer job in the George Deacon Division for Ocean Processes in 1998 I was involved in the study of mesoscale processes and processing/analysis of biophysical data from the Discovery Cruise 224 as part of the EU-funded OMEGA project. Part of the data collected on this cruise formed the basis for my BSc research project “The Distribution Of Water Masses And Their Correlation To Zooplankton Biovolume And Size Distribution Measured By An Optical Plankton Counter In The Eastern Alboran Sea" during my undergraduate degree.
